Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training FAQ

Open trainings are available to employers across Indiana and are ideal when you would like to train a small number of employees. These sessions are hosted and instructed by certified WCI staff. Training will include participants from multiple organizations.

No, at this time, there is no pre-work required for this training.

  • Build a clear understanding of suicide as a public health issue, including common myths, warning signs and risk/protective factors
  • Learn how to respond safely and effectively to someone in crisis using core QPR skills
  • Gain confidence connecting individuals to appropriate professional and community resources through guided practice

QPR is designed for employees at all levels and is especially valuable for HR professionals, supervisors, managers, wellness and safety teams. This is also valuable to any employee wanting to strengthen supportive communication skills. Overall, our QPR Gatekeeper training is for anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

Yes, if training is scheduled for 2 hours, it will include the optional role play in order to participants to practice real life scenarios specific to the workplace.

Yes, our certified Wellness Council of Indiana staff will provide the official QPR booklets and cards. Additionally, staff will provide local, statewide, and national resources for your utilization in the future.

Yes. Participants receive a nationally recognized QPR certification valid for one year.

Here is what the training experience looks like from start to finish:

    1. Register for a scheduled training or request an on-site session
      Participants may register for an upcoming in-person refresher session or organizations may request an on-site training for a group of employees.

    2. Attend the in-person instructor-led session
      This interactive, scenario-based training focuses on applying skills in realistic workplace situations.
    3. Receive certification and follow-up resources
      After completing and passing an in-person session, participants receive a one-year QPR certification along with digital tools and guides to use in individual workplaces.
